So, how was your weekend?

November 01st, 2004 | Category: Fun

Mine was okay. No haunted house work is good, makes for a longer weekend. And I had a great realization yesterday. Guess who doesn’t have to help tear it down. :)
I played poker, which was actually terrible. A situation happened at the poker game on Saturday that left a really bad taste in my mouth. Not for poker though, just for the people playing in that game. Not just the people involved in the hand either, everyone at the table. Telling me that you think I was right AFTER the fact means nothing. I’m the first person everyone turns to when a situation happens at a poker game, that needs to be straightened out, yet no one is willing to “get involved” when I need some back up. That’s such garbage.

Poker wasn’t all bad this weekend. I won Friday night. But still, that Saturday night thing pissed me off. The bad part is, the people that were playing are the core group. The people that you can usually count on to be there, and I don’t want to play with them anymore, lol. Kind of ironic.

As far as Halloween goes, well, it’s just another day now. We don’t get any trick or treaters. In 4 years, we’ve had one, and I think they were lost. So last night we went to Kel’s parents house and played euchre for a while. Then went home and watched Jason vs Freddy, which is a fun flick if you like the genre. And it is damn funny watching Kelly Rowland get her nose ripped off.

Speaking of Halloween, Clay and I had a fun conversation on Sunday. It seems like people don’t go begging for candy as much as they used to. I remember staying out almost all night trick or treating. This, of course, wasn’t the case. It “seemed” like all night looking back at it, but it was probable only until 8:00pm. Everything that you remember from your childhood seems bigger. The analogy I use is this: The house you grew up in, when thinking back, seems like a mansion when in actuality, there is nothing big about a 900 sq ft house. I think the same applies to begging for candy on Halloween. Although, after I was out of the “need a guardian” phase of my trick or treat life, I do remember being out later than the porch lights. That’s one clear thing that Clay and I remember, we out-lasted the porch lights. That could be why it seemed like it was so much later. By the time we got home, it was dark.

I also remember there being a lot of kids around. I remember there sort of being a “buzz” in the neighborhood. I remember waiting in lines at houses to get candy. We drove through Kel’s parents neighborhood last night and there was nobody around. We saw maybe a dozen kids total.

Maybe it’s just that nothing was as good as you remember it to be. I’m a firm believer in that anyway. A great exercise in that is this: Think of a movie, that you loved as a kid. Something you havn’t seen in a years. Then go out and rent it. 99% of the time you will say to yourself “I can’t believe I liked this piece of shit”.
