Back in town
Well, I’m back from Vegas. What a great time that was. Joey and I played poker about 15 hours a day. We slept about 3-4 hours per day while we were there. Played in 3 tournaments, and one sit n go. (single table tourney) The rest of the time we were grinding it out on the no limit tables. Mostly at the Flamingo, since there was a pretty juicy game there.
So, day one, we arrive in Vegas. It’s Wednesday night, so we grab a limo and tell him to take us up the strip to Treasure Island where we were staying. On the weekend, the strip is way to packed to drive it at all, but on Wednesday night, it was great. S0 off we go. We check into TI, and go up to our rooms. Kim and Mike got a room on the 3rd floor, while Joey and I got a room on the 33rd. Shatee (the chick working the counter) hooked us up with a room with a great view of the strip.
We cleaned up, and off we went. Straight down town to Binions. We asked about a no limit game until their 2:00am tourney, and we ended up sitting at a 1$-2$ no limit must move table. Meaning we would play there, waiting for another game. That was a cool way to do it. It was a no rake game, and it didn’t matter how many people were playing. You could stay as long as it took for you to move to the regular game. So, while we were sitting there, some young fish sat down and within 20 minutes, Joey managed to bust him out. Then he bought back in, and Joe moved to the regular game. I ended up bust that kid again, and all of a sudden, Joey and I were up 100 bucks already! The game at Binions that night ended up being really juicy. I won like 300 that night, before we went to grab a bite to eat before the tourney. The only place open, in downtown Las Vegas at 1:00am on a Wednesday, is McDonalds. So we ate there, and went back for the tourney. There wasn’t a lot of people registered for the tourney, so we decided to just play in the no limit game. We did that all night, then caught a cab back to the hotel to crash for a few.
The next few days are kind of a blur. The first thing we did was go play in a $55 buy in no limit tourney at the Flamingo. Neither of us cashed in that, but we stayed and played in the 1-2 no limit game for a while. Then we went wondering around for a bit, and grabbed a bite to eat. We went back to the Flamingo to play some more no limit. While we were playing they were registering for the 6:00 tourney, so we decided to play in it. I ended up chopping the pot 3-ways. Once we got down to three of us, the lady that was the chip leader offered a chop. I asked what the chop would be, and the TD told us it was $480.00 each. He also said that second place only paid $430.00, with third being 2 something, and first 7 something. I said that I was cool with a chop, and the other guy agreed. So I cashed $480.00 in that tourney. I liked the chop because A. I was the short stack of the three, and B. the chop was more than second place, so two people were getting more than they would have. It was just a smart move.
Then it was all no limit for us well into the next day. As a matter of fact, that’s pretty much all we did for the rest of the trip. We played in one tourney at Circus Circus, which is a total shit hole. I was last out before the final table in that one, and Mike, Kim and Joey all got cracked on the same hand in the final table. Finishing in 8th, 7th and 6th I believe. (Mike, Joe, Kim) There is a serious flaw in the thought process behind combining a casino, with a circus. I mean, that place stunk soooo bad. What a toilet.
Anyway, back to the strip, and more no limit at the Flamingo. We played there a lot. Juicy games, and free Red Bull. All in all, I did okay. I ended up third on a high hand list at the Flamingo. It was funny actually. This guy had said that he as going to limp in because it was his last hand. I said it was going to be mine to (it was a little after 4:00am). I’m on the button, and I look down to see ATo. So I limp in, like I said I would, and the small blind calls, BB checks. The flop is AA7. SB checks, BBchecks, middle position checks, and I check. Turn card, A. I just made quad aces. SB bets $10. BB folds, middle position folds, and I call. The river is a 5, and the SB bets $10 more. I raise to $40 and he asks if I’m trying to buy it. He decides to lay it down, and I show quad aces 10 kicker. The high hand of the day was quad aces with a queen kicker, so at this point I was second. The payout was $400.00 at that point. They restart at 6:00am. Well between the time we left, and 6:00am, someone made a straight flush, dropping me down to third. I won $300 bucks for my quads, and picked it up the next day. Cool stuff.
I tell you what, playing that much poker is hard work. Joey and I were absolutely spent buy the time we were leaving. 3 hours of sleep a night, and grinding out 10-15 hour poker sessions took it’s toll. We were ready to go home. The flight home was quick and painless, even though it was the red eye. As far as my body goes, it’s all screwed up. I got some sort of flu or something, and have felt like shit since I got home. I was good while we were there, it didn’t start until yesterday, but I feel like shit. I can’t breath, and I have a cough like a 30 year smoker. This sucks.
To sum up the trip, we played a ton of poker. I came home with roughly what I went with, which means I was up since I bought food and gifts and shit while I was there. And I’m totally beat up, and now sick with something.
You know, there was this lady on the plane hacking and sneezing the whole way home. I kept thinking about that movie theater scene from outbreak. Maybe that’s what the fuck happened to me, maybe I got Ebola.
Bitch.
