Movie Granny

Category: Fun

Fun times at Best Buy. I went there to pick up the movie Doom, which doesn’t come out till next week. (-ahem- I’m a dumbass) Anyway, while I was there looking at the new releases that I could care less about, this old lady walked up next to me and said “that was a good movie” while pointing to Madagascar. I told her that I was planning on getting it, and I just sort of uttered “if I can find a widescreen version”. The lady, now known as Movie Granny, replied with “that’s the only way to watch a movie”.

I was shocked. I know so called movie buffs that look at me weird when I tell them that. I was looking through the rest of the new release rack, and movie granny said to me “this movie was pretty good” pointing at Flightplan. I told her that I don’t like Jody Foster, and she agreed that it wouldn’t be a good movie to watch then.

Fish was standing next to me, and I pointed to The Fog, and I told him how it was on IMDB’s bottom 100 list already, and how I heard it was absolutely wretched. Movie Granny said “I have it, but I haven’t seen it yet. My daughter in law watches that stuff, but I don’t. I don’t like those movies in my library”.

We went on about a few movie that were sitting in the new release section, before I had to leave. While I was walking away I noticed Batman Begins sitting on the rack. I turned back to Movie Granny and said “You know what movie was great? This one” (pointing to Batman) She replied with “ooohh yeah, I loved that one!”

She was a damn good time. She looked about 70, and she was a movie buff. A real movie buff. I didn’t notice at first, but she was walking through the new release section with a Best Buy shopping cart, to see if there was anything for her to add to her collection.

Awesome.

If I had the time, I would still be bs’ing with her about the lack of a new release that’s worth a damn this week, and what was coming out next week. Maybe I’ll see her again on Dooms actual release day next week.

If I see her again next Tuesday, I will ask her about the Substitute, and it’s many sequels.

As far as the “was she hot” question…..I guess that depends on what you’re into.
