X Men III

May 31st, 2006 | Category: Fun

Okay, so this movie was good. You’ll probably read that some people didn’t like this or that about this flick, but taken for what it is, a super hero film, I liked it.

I’m a big fan of the series of X films. This movie has a lot going on in it. There are a bunch of character introductions, and the action scenes were pretty sweet. Especially the fight scenes at Jeans old house. Awesome friggin scene.

I can’t really say much about the movie without giving things away, but for those of you that saw it I say to you: Whoa, didn’t expect all that! there were a few scenes that made me say….wait, what? really? huh? no way? no shit? Which was fun. Again, can’t say much without giving it away.

If you liked the other X movies, you’ll like this one. Yeah, the dialogue blows in parts, and the script could have used one more rewrite before going to production, but beyond that it was entertaining to watch.

I’m just a huge geek, so it worked for me.

A couple of non-spoiler notes.
Stay till the credits are over. It’s a pretty important scene at the end.
They announced that they want to make an X4. When you stop and think about it, not as much has changed as it originally appears. Again, I don’t want to give anything away, but just note that only one major chagne has happened.

Here is the most important note of all:
Yes, the Juggernaut is in this movie, and yes….he actually says “Do you know who I am? I’m the Juggernaut Bitch!”

It’s fucking great!

Long weekend

May 30th, 2006 | Category: Fun, Not Fun

That was a nice long weekend. My second in a row actually. Now a short 4 day week, and this little stretch of life isn’t half bad! Except the Pistons games over the weekend. Those sucked. They sucked. They were making excuses after game three that sounded like reasons why they lost the whole series, not just that game. It doesn’t look good for Piston fans.

We didn’t go see X Men III yet. We were supposed to go on Friday. Kel got off work early, so I was going to also and meet her at the movies. She got there before me and both parking lots at the movies were completely full. We didn’t want to screw with that rush, so we decided to wait. We’re supposed to go tonight after work, hopefully that will work out, I’m really excited to see this flick.

Man, my friggin allergies are going apeshit this morning. I’m sneezing like crazy and I can’t breath at all. I also left my Allegra at home….which is nice.

Why isn’t there a Disney World in China?

Because no one would be tall enough to ride the cool rides!

Text message lady

May 23rd, 2006 | Category: Fun

Okay, LOL, so when I was away, Ken actually called that lady to tell her that we have been messing with her. He said she was fine with it, and blamed one of her kids for putting in the wrong number.

Here’s the strange part. She went ahead and continued to send him text messages. Okay, so she’s a total psycho. Glad it’s not my phone that she accidentally texted. After a few texts back and forth between them, all the while Ken feeling extremely uncomfortable about the whole thing, this crazy lady went ahead and did the ultimate.

She sent him pictures of herself. As you are about to witness, I think she has more on her mind then just chatting with a new friend.

Tourney update

May 22nd, 2006 | Category: Poker

Man, that was a fun weekend. It was long though. I feel like I need a weekend, to recover from the weekend.

Ron and I played in a qualifier on Saturday morning. This one had 142 people in it. Ron went out on an absolutely horrid beat. He’s got AQ in the big blind, everyone folds and the small limps in. He raises the blind from $400 to make it $1000 straight. The small calls. The flop is 3 suited A, Q, rag. Small checks, and Ron moves all-in. The small blind calls him with Ad,9d. (the flop had one diamond) This guy is dead to runner-runner (two 9’s or two diamonds). He hits two running diamonds, and knocks Ron out.

Viscious.

I ended up playing for 5.5 hours that day. I made it down to 31st place (29 cash) and got busted one off the bubble. Losing that close to the money feels a lot like getting kicked in the balls. Hard. I was actually in decent shape, but I was moved to a table where I was the short stack, and put I had big slick in the blind, and I moved all-in. I was called by a guy with pocket 8’s. The dealer ran the flop, and flipped the cards over. The door card was a King, and I was feeling great. That is until she spread the flop to reveal 8, 8 under the king. The guy flopped quad 8’s, and I was smoked. It sucked. Still sucks.

We had a good time though. It was a really good experience, and I will for sure do it again in the future. Those tourneys are a ton of fun to play.

HPT update

May 19th, 2006 | Category: Poker

Well, I didn’t make the main event in todays qualifier. I went out in 38th place. I played pretty well, I just had no cards. The last two blinds levels I didn’t see a card higher then an 8. When I would think I was going to makes a move, someone else would raise it on front of me. I had no chance. When I did get a face card, I moved in and was dominated. So no ah ah for me. Ron made it to 29th place, but also missed the cut.

We played some table games for a while, where after like 5 hours, I ended up plus 25, lol. We decided to try one more satelitte. I got the chip lead early but took two hellacious beats in a row to get knocked out. Ron however, made it and won a buy-in for tomorrow mornings tourney.

So here I sit, trying to decided if I should just pony up and buy in tomorrow. The one thing I can say about those tourneys are they sure are fun.

I’ll post what I decided to do, when I decide to do it.

PS
Ron must think this hotel room is like his house. It’s like a fucking bajillion degrees on here. We walked in and he said “at least it’s warm in here”.

Warm? Feels like a sauna.

Heartland Poker Tour

May 18th, 2006 | Category: Uncategorized

Right now I’m sitting in the hotel room at the Vineyard Inn in Leelanau.

This morning, Ron and I left the house at 4:00am and drove up here to Traverse Bay to play in the Heartland Poker Tours satellite tournaments. The first one was at 10:00am. It was a $75 buy-in. 1st and 2nd place win entries into one of the 4 qualifying tournaments on Friday or Saturday.

First satellite, I won. I’m playing in a $330 buy-in qualifying tourney tomorrow at 10:00am. The top 20% of that tourney wins a buy-in to the main event tourney on Sunday.

So here’s how it works:
Wednesday and Thursday:
$40 10 person sit-n-go satellite tournaments. 1st place gets a buy-in for the $330.00 qualifier tourney.
$75 10 person sint-n-go satelittle tournaments. 1st and 2nd place win a buy-in for a $330.00 qualifier tourney.
Friday and Saturday:
$330.00 Qualifier games. One in the morning, one in the afternoon. The top 20% of these tourneys win an entry into the main event on Sunday.
Sunday:
Main Event:
Top 30 spots pay.

The top payout is anywhere from 20-70 grand, depending on the amount of participants. So you could make it all the way to the big game on $40 provided you win one 10 person satellite, and then get in top 20% of the next.

So far, I’ve won the first round, and I’m in the $330.00 tournament for $40.

Good times.
