Superman Returns

Category: Fun

So, I saw Superman Returns last night. I still don’t know what to make of this flick.

First off, it was entertaining. It was very long (2hrs 34min) but it didn’t seem to drag on much. The opening credits were just like the first 2 Superman flicks, which was great. Plus the music was the same, so if you’ve seen and enjoyed the originals, this movie has a great feel to it.

The parts where Superman was being Superman doing super shit, were awesome. The effects were great. The actors were great. Kevin Spacey nails Lex Luthor. One minute he’s kind of a likeable mild bad guy, the next a ruthless villian. He did a great job. Parker Posey, who played Kitty Kowalski Luthors right hand man, was hilarious. She’s almost type cast to play the quirky girl, but she does a good job of it. Brandon Routh, who plays Superman, is a friggin Christopher Reeves clone. It’s creepy how much he’s like Reeves rendition of the character. He even sounds like him. I can honestly say that there isn’t anyone else on the planet that would have been a better Superman. He was perfect. Kate Bosworth did a decent job playing Lois. The only problem I had with her is how young she is. I mean, if this movie takes place 5 years after Superman 2(this was eluded to in the film), then how did Lois get 10 years younger? I know it’s not Bosworths fault, and nobody wants to see a 55 year old Lois Lane, but everytime she was on screen it just didn’t seem to fit.

The one thing I didn’t like about this movie was how much of a love story it was. There was a lot of love story going on. A lot. So much so, that I think it’s keeping me from loving the movie. I’m not totally sure yet, as it usually takes a day for a movie to completely sink in.

5 years gone. They had to explain how everyone is dealing with his return. I get it. But this is a sequel. We know the characters. They actually make a few references to Superman 2, if you’re a geek enough to notice them. (which I am) I understand that director Bryan Singer was trying to develope the characters to get everyone caught up. I just think it was a little much. I really think that movie could have been scaled down to 2hrs without losing much. I expected a super hero movie, with a love back story. What I saw was a love story, with a super hero back story. Even during some of the big super hero scenes, they interupted the action to add more love story sequences.

As of right now, I’m on the fence. I’m glad I saw it, and will for sure watch it again, I just can’t tell yet if it will seem long the second time through.

I hated Lois, I thought she totally sucked… not just cause I hate Kate whatever her name is but I just think she was horrible at acting… :( They needed to get someone else to play her.

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU DIDNT SEE THE MOVIE DONT READ THIS
First of all i think that i was alittle let down and its my fault because ivebeen looking forward to this for 2 years.i would have loved the movie if i didnt know as much as i did about it.I did not like Bosworth as Lois, she was the only character that i didnt like(she is not a good actor)I think the whole love triangle thing was good,i mean who the hell is worth waiting around for 5 years.I dont know, call me old fashioned but i really hated the whole bastard child of superman thing,he is pretty much the Only superhero that is supposed to be “wholesome”and it kind of ruined it for me.I think i have to see it again to maybe let that storyline get me.Believe me I am all about reinvention and am open-minded aboutdifferent ideas, but where do you draw the line with re-invention.At least they didn’t change superman into a black guy who is homosexual.(poor Nick Fury)
