Scare from my Dad…

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this. Sorry about that. My work schedule finally died down, and I was starting to settle a little bit. This past week has been a crazy one though. As some of you know, my Dad has cancer again. This time it’s in his esophagus. He started his chemotherapy and radiation a few weeks ago which made him very sick. He was hospitalized for over 2 weeks from that. He was discharged, and was only home a few days when on last Saturday his legs went numb and he started vomiting blood. He was rushed to the hospital and we found out he was bleeding internally. He had lost 4 units of blood, which is half of what he had. It was real touch and go all day Saturday. They gave him a transfusion, and he stabilized, then in the afternoon his blood pressure crashed, heart rate went through the roof, and it happened all over again. Turns out, he was bleeding faster then they could transfuse him. So they did a GI Scope to see if they could find what was bleeding. They did find it, which was a blood vessel from his tumor, and they cauterized it, clipped it, and stopped the bleeding.

The next two days were touchy as he was at great risk of re-bleeding. He was on blood thinners from the week before because of blood clots he has, so they had to reverse the affect of those which in turn made him at risk because of the blood clots. It’s kind of a sick catch 22.

Anyway, I’m happy to say as of yesterday he’s stable and doing well. They have started his radiation treatments again, and so far so good. They will have to watch his blood levels closely, but so far it looks like he’s not bleeding anymore.

He’s at Troy Beaumont hospital, but hopefully he can go home soon.

I promise I won’t take this long for some kind of update.

If there is anything that we can do, don’t hesitate. I know the boys would love to dog sit, if you and K need it. If you need a break, I know Mr. Scott would love to go for a ride. Just let him know when.
