Hi blog, how’ve you been?
I’ve been sooo busy lately that I haven’t had time to sit and think, much less to post about whats going on.
Lets see, whats been going on….
This Saturday we are opening our second new store in two weeks at work. Great for us, as business is good enough to open two new BW3 locations, but it sure does make for a busy schedule for the IT guy….me. I had a VIP party last night at our Rochester location, another one tonight (although I do get to party a little at this one), then I have to be there for live coverage tomorrow on their go live date. Of course, I did this same thing last week/weekend for our Livonia location. The bummer is I just got offered tickets for the Michigan State/Wisconsin game tomorrow in East Lansing and I can’t use them. Dammit.
Oh yeah, my home computer died. I got home from one of the late nights last week in Livonia (they’re all running together in my head) and I noticed bright lights coming out of the office. I have my monitors set to turn off after 10 minutes so it’s odd for it to be lit up like that. I walked in to see on both monitors of my dual display, hard disk boot failure. At the time, I just shut it off because I didn’t want to deal with it, but upon further investigation I found out the the mobo is fried. It’s a pretty old computer, and is due for an upgrade anyway. I started to look into a laptop, but decided I like having a desktop at home. Then I looked into building a computer and I realized, it’s not like the old days where you can build a better system for less money anymore. PC companies have become competitive enough that you can buy a loaded pre-built system for less money now. So I went to all the usual suspects to try and find a PC in my budget. I ended up at Alienware where I ordered an Alienware Area 51-7500 desktop. 2.66ghz Quad core processor, 4gb RAM, 1TB of storage and dual 9800 GT video cards. I should be able to clone sheep with this fucking thing. I’m so geeked to get it. It also has Grid, a new car game, and Crysis, game of the year, included, so I will have some shit to play. Plus, the case looks like a predator head, which is tight.
Oh, the Tivo saga continues also. I got the refurbed unit from Tivo to replace my series 3 that ate itself…for the second time, and the box they sent me was DOA. Can you fucking believe that? Dead as fuck. So they sent me another one. I got that one, which worked, but then I found out that when Comcast came out to check the cable cards, the asshole technician didn’t make sure that the cards he left were the ones on the account still, so I had to call them and have them come back out again, which they are doing tomorrow. I can’t even tell the last time I had a working Tivo now. The good thing is that we just re-did our bedroom and I’ve been using that TV which is a brand new 37″ LG LCD that I just pickup up. We also have an HD DVR in there too, so it hasn’t been that bad. Is that weird that we have two HD DVR’s and an HD series 3 Tivo in the house, for just two people? We can now record up to 6 shows at once.
Anyway, that’s about it. Since I stopped to type this out, I’m now 2 weeks behind at work. Thanks a lot.
