Second Annual Fish and Scott Poker Invitational
We had the game on Saturday. Once again Fish and I show how good we are at hosting these things.
Everything went really well, and I think that everyone had a good time. Willie-Johnny-Bret-Stevie-Bobbie-Freddy-Al-Paulie-Phil took down the first game. Yes, that is all one guy. I don’t know why, but everytime I meet him, he has a new name. So I decided to go ahead and add some myself.
Anyway, he took down the first game showing that sometimes you need just one thing…luck. This guy was forced all-in more than once, and doubled up everytime. It was crazy. Fun to watch, although it had to suck to play against. Eventually took it down. Congrats dude with many names. (<—shorter than typing them all out)
Other winners on the night were Eric, Lil’ Rob, and myself. We played for quit a while. 5 games total. Some of us actually played for 12 hours straight. I rolled in about 6:15 Sunday morning. It was so early, I had to wear my sunglasses driving home. But it was a fun night. No issues, and everyone had a good time. Looking forward to the next one.
5 commentsFinally, poker night at Bonnies!
It’s been a while, too long in fact, but tomorrow night is our first night back at Bonnies house for poker night. I’m ready for it. I think it will help kill my urge to play poker, since for all intensive purposes I am still on hiatus from the game. I can’t wait til tomorrow though. As with all things, I’m sure tomorrow at work will go extremely slow considering I have something to look forward to after. One good thing is that Kel’s home office setup will be a much better environment for her to work in, since we cleaned up the office today. That makes me happy.
2 comments1st Annual Fish and Scott Poker Invitational
The poker night went great. Everyone had a good time, and the tourney went really smooth. The place we had it at worked out also. We had a TV so we got to watch the Pistons game while we played. (sucks that they lost, but as long as they win tonight and split on the road, all will be well)
Anyway, Little Rob won the big tourney. It was a chip battle between him and Nate at the final table. Nate went all in on 2 pair after the flop, Q’s and 2’s, and Rob called him with a pair of Queens with a King kicker. You gotta love Nates chances here. But it wasn’t meant to be when Rob caught a King on the river to get a higher two pair. Tough beat for Nate. That gave Rob enough chips to bully everyone else out. Congrats Rob.
Sommers ended up being my God damn nemesis for this game. 10, 10, 9 on the flop, I’m staring at 10, J in my hand as he goes all in in position ahead of me. I call of course, and run right into a full house as he throws down 10,9. I ended up taking Joey out of the game that hand, but Sommers doubling up on me hurt my chip count more than taking Joey out helped it. Then as I get closer and closer to the felt, I get a wired pair of three’s, go all in, and run right into Jay’s pocket Q’s. Bastard. To make matters worse, I caught a set of 3’s, but he also caught a set of Q’s! That actually made it kind of funny, lol.
Good luck with your ATM card Jay.
This wasn’t the only game of the night however. It wasn’t by far actually. I got home that night (or morning actually) at 6:00am. We played four games total, although the last one wasn’t a “normal” game. 300 in chips, $50.00 blinds, 20 minute showdown type. Good times.
I think we’re going to do this once a month. It seemed like everyone had a good time with it. I don’t know about the playing til 6 thing though, that was a little much. I woke up on Sunday at 10:30 after only 4 hours of sleep. I was kind of a zombie all day yesterday. Also, Joey and I played heads-up for a couple of hours yesterday, after this weekend, I’m for sure poker’d out.
I decided before Saturday’s game that I was done with poker for a while. That after the tourney Saturday night, I was going to take a hiatus from the game. I feel even stronger about that now. There was an incident that happened that helped me make that decision. It made me realize something. No need to get into it now, because I don’t want to start any problems, but let’s just say I’m not going out of my way to set up games for the people I currently play with all the time. To be honest, I don’t know if I ever will again. As it stands, I’m not real happy with the situation. With this in mind, Fish and I decided to run a once a month game like Saturdays. I’ll play in those, but that’s it. I’m done with the weekly/bi weekly games. The funny thing is, with the exception of Fish, no one else will put together a game. If the effort on our part stopped, no one would ever play poker again, lol. Hopefully this will change as people read this….I doubt it though. Just a side note, this is NOT the reason I don’t want to play poker anymore.
Anyway, I went to bed last night at 11:00, relatively early for me, but I still don’t feel 100% yet. After a few more cups of coffee maybe….

So tonight, I hosted a little poker game with the fellas. I had told Brian that I would host a game when he made detective, and worked a regular schedule. So tonight it was. Actually, I’m still sitting at the table right now, only I’m out already. Tonight was a case where no matter how good I played, it wasn’t meant to be. I called 3 seperatw all-ins, everytime I had the better hand, and I was out drawn on the river each time.
Wasn’t meant to be.
I think it’s because I really want the next win. Billy and I have sort of a rivalry. He’s in second place. If I get one more win, before he gets another one, then I will be 1000 up on second place. It’s just so I can rub it in. Heh.
2 commentsHappy Easter!
Good morning! Happy Easter to all of you.
This morning we’re going to Bonnies for “holiday morning breakfast”. We love that. Then this afternoon we’re going to Elaines. I made this for all my blog readers. Proof that anything can be funny, just by putting a pancake on it’s head:

So I turn on the TV, and flip around, and guess what movies on. Think about it, what one movie reminds you of Easter no matter what time of year you see it? That’s right, Poltergeist. What a perfect way to start this easter sunday. With an 80’s horror flick starring Craig T Nelson. I’m of course being sarcastic, because to be honest, a Craig T Nelson movie is NEVER a good way to start the day. Although I didn’t know until the credits ran that Poltergeist was a Stephen Spielberg flick.
So, in the spirit of this holy holiday, and thanks to the thoughtfulness of Cenimax in reminding me what Easter really means, I say to you all
“You moved the cemetery but you didn’t mvoe the bodies!!”
Good Friday for me at least
We had good Friday off of work. And since 4 of us that work there, all play cards with eachother, it was only logical for us to get a poker game going Friday morning. So we did. Fish, Nate, Ken, Ken and myself. Ken hosted. I ended up taking it down. Heads up with Nate, good times. When we were leaving I told the guys that Billy had wanted to get a game going at night, so I was going to try to put one together. Ended up getting one going. Fish, Eric, Billy, Dan, Ron and myself. And I ended up headsup with Fish, and I took that one down. Fun times. I now have 11 wins in the league, over 1,200.00 in prize money, and a HUGE lead over second place.
Dinner and a Poker Game
It was Kimmers birthday so we went to Firehouse for dinner. Not much on the menu for me there, lol, but I ended up getting the Diablo Chicken Alfredo. Spicy, but damn good.
Steve and Billy hosted a poker game tonight. 7 of us played. Steve took it down, and qualified for the championship game. I ended up in third. I just couldn’t catch shit towards the end. I was good earlier, but bad later. I did double up once at the end, but I just didn’t have the chips to compete. Oh well, Steve makes it to the championship game, so that will be fun at the end of the year.
No commentsPoker Tourney on Saturday
I heard about this poker game, that was going on last Saturday. A buddy of mine at work told me about his friends putting on a 50 dollar buy in game, at this hall 1 minute from my house. Friday night, Steve called me to tell me about the same tourney going on. So I decided to play. For 50 bucks, it was worth it.
Well, I didn’t do all that well in the tourney. I was knocked out about half way through it. So I was wandering around, watching some of the other games going on, and Dan came up to me to tell me that they had a side game going on. It was a 25 dollar buy in. So I went over there, and played. 9 people, 25 bucks a piece. Minus 50 for the guy putting the game on, and the winner gets 200 bucks. I ended up winning that one, so it was worth it for me to head down there.
I played heads up beautifully. The guy I went headsup against, had a 2.5 to 1 chip lead over me when we started. I started battling back, and took some pots from him. I realized quickly that I was a better player than him, and it didn’t take me long to take advantage of that. I ended up taking the chip lead from him, really just by out betting him. The last hand played like this:
I’m in the big blind. I get J, Q off suit. He calls the blinds, and I let him limp in by checking my option to raise. The flop was Q, Q, 8. I checked quickly, to try to make him think I didn’t like that flop. He checked, and the turn card was a J. I checked again quickly. He says “let’s go 50 bucks”. I go all in over the top. He calls, and I show the nut full house. He’s drawing dead. The crowd exploded, it was great.
I set him up for that. A few times prior to that hand, I had checked raised him all in. He never had cards enough to call. The very first hand heads-up, I went all in on him, and he didn’t call. He did say to me “just keep doing that”. To which I replied “keep dealing me pocket pairs, and I will”. Oddly enough, I actually DID have a pocket pair on the first hand. Pocket 9’s. He was getting frustrated at his lack of good cards, and it was easy to spot. Once I saw that, it didn’t matter what my cards were, I was going to play every hand like I have the nuts. That’s what I did, and I took him down.
Fun weekend. I would have rather won the $750.00 first prize in the big tourney, but the $200.00 pot that I won was good enough. ![]()
To quote Billy “We should have just played hold em”
I had a poker game at the house last night. We called it an old school get together. Dealers choice, quarter poker. With the ante at a quarter, I did rather well walking away with around 100 bucks, lol. I didn’t win that many games, but I won the big ones. The first one was a game of screw your neighbor. Mike played it. We put up 50, 50 and 50 cents, and a 1 dollar charity. The way we play is you double burn on an ace, that’s why you get an extra “charity”. Anyway, Billy had played it a few times through out the night, but this time Mike called it, and he doubled the money. So the pot will be $12.50 to start. We played until Ron and I went headsup. We both had 1 left, and we double burned on 8’s. So we payed, and we all re-antied, and everyone was back in. Now the pots 25 bucks. It came down to Billy and I. I dealt him his cards, and he said he would play it. I also said I was good, and we both flipped over 9’s. TWO double burns. I’ve never seen that happen. So we payed, and we were all back in, AGAIN. We thought it might happen again at the end. I was good, and Billy said he’d play it. He flipped a Jack, but I had a King and I took it down. So I won $37.50 in that one hand. I also won the last hand of the night, which was a $5.00 ante showdown hand. So with those two hands I won $62.50, plus a couple of guys bought change off of me, so I threw $30.00 cash in my pocket.
Not a bad night for just wanting to get together and play a friendly nickel/dime poker game.
