Movie review: Avatar
So, after the movie was out for like 10 minutes, a bunch of people told me it was the greatest movie ever made. We decided to go see it yesterday, and here’s my take.
It was a good movie. The special effects were really well done. Most of the time you didn’t realize that you were watching CG giant blue people when they were on the screen, which is a good thing. The way James Cameron made the blue people look, and act like the hosts (Sigourney Weaver, that dude in the wheel chair, that other dude from Dodge Ball, etc.) was fantastic. The way their faces moved was like the real actors. Very cool there. The story line was pretty good also. Not really great though. It’s the kind of story that probably wouldn’t make a very good movie if it wasn’t for the great effects. This movie is long however. Too long. Movies can be 2-3 hours as long as you don’t notice that you are watching them for that long. I noticed in this movie. The beginning felt kind of rushed introducing you to whats going on, and the middle section seemed to drag on a bit. You would think in his 12 year hiatus, James Cameron would have figured out how to make a movie in under 2.5 hours. Let me tell ya, 1.5 hours into Titanic, I couldn’t care less about the characters and just wanted the god damn boat to sink. In Avatar, the action was good, and the 3D was excellent as expected (RealD). If you haven’t seen a movie in RealD, this would be a good one to start with. RealD makes any movie a blast to see (My Bloody Valentine=AWESOME in RealD). It’s not like old school 3D with the blue and red lensed glasses. It’s not gimicky like that. Instead, it’s like looking into a room, or out a window to whats happening in the movie. Very cool stuff.
I will say that it’s definitely worth see this movie at the theater, not only for the 3D, but because the effects are worth seeing on the big screen. Just don’t go out thinking that this movie will change your life. There is a lot of hype about this movie right now, and it may have been shot in this revolutionary way, but it’s just not an instant top 5 movie in my opinion.

Seriously though, why are all restaurant fish tanks filled with the fish from Finding Nemo? The first time I saw it I thought it was kind of cool. Now, I know it’s just gay.
1 commentHappy belated Fathers day to all you Dads
Yesterday was Fathers day. Kel went to church with her Dad, and then I met them for breakfast afterward. You could say that I’m not the church type, but that’s for another post. (no Chris and Bahia, I won’t join your cult)
Anyway, we had a good breakfast, then went back to the house where Kel crashed for like 3 hours, and I decided to take the bike for a ride. I ended up going to the cemetery. Pops marker and bench still aren’t there yet, but it’s easy to find as it’s right under a tree. There were a ton of people at the cemetery yesterday, just kind of hanging out. I didn’t stay long. I’ve been missing my Dad a lot lately, and I went by to see if that would help. It didn’t really. I guess this whole thing just took a little longer to set in for me, then for everyone else, cause I’m having a harder time with it now, then I was right after he died. Weird.
Anyway, last night we met Ron at Ruby Tuesdays for some food (and liquor) and then went to the movies to see The Hangover. Kel and I saw it already, but we knew Ron would like it. I think that movie was funnier the second time around. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and go. It’s hilarious.
Well, I’m off to get some coffee, and get to work this morning.

How’s it going? Me, good. Going golfing tonight after work, then straight home to watch the Wings game in Tivo. The weather is great out, and it’s going to be like that all week. Good stuff. Today aside, I plan on putting a few hundred miles on the bike this week. I have to go to our Celebration store to reload a terminal, and I think I’m going to ride the bike out there. Although, one of the managers told me that he would take me golfing next time I was out for helping them out the other night. Hmmmm, what to do….
1 commentBack to the grind
Day 2, back to work. I’m trying be normal again. I’ve been walking around in kind of a funk since my Dad passed away. Still in it. The weird part is that I’m a total rock. No idea why, I just am. Everyone keeps telling me to let it out, but I’m not holding anything back. Strange.
I hit the gym this morning for the first time in a week. Johnny underwear was there again today. This is a guy who likes to walk around the locker room in his drawers, for what seems to be an uncomfortable amount of time. He’s also the guy that refuses to dry off in the shower stall, and comes out into the common area to do that. Seriously, get in, shower up, and get the fuck out. There is no reason to hang out in the locker room. I feel weird if it takes me too long to do my hair, yet this fucking guy loves it in there.
Whatever, it seemed like a short workout today, which is okay since I haven’t done anything but eat garbage for a week.
